TIMES SINGAPORE, JAKARTA – Do you feel uneasy or awkward in front of the camera? You're not alone. Many people experience the discomfort of being in front of the lens, whether posing or speaking.

But don't worry, it’s completely manageable. In this article, we’ll share some practical tips on how to overcome camera nervousness and boost your confidence.

Nada Fahira, a professional photographer in Malang, shares her insights on this common struggle. "Preparation is key," she advises.

She also added taht before a shoot, whether it’s a photo session or a video, being well-prepared can make all the difference. "Know what you want to convey and how you want to look. Having a clear idea helps you stay focused and calm when the camera is rolling," she uttered.

The next step is practice. "It’s all about getting comfortable. The more you practice in front of a mirror or with friends, the more natural it will feel," Nada explains.

Practicing different poses or delivery styles can help you refine your body language and facial expressions, which are essential for feeling at ease.

When nervousness creeps in, don’t forget the power of deep breathing. "Taking a moment to breathe deeply can help center your mind and relieve some of the tension," says Nada.

Deep breaths deliver more oxygen to your brain, keeping your energy levels up while promoting calmness.

Nada also emphasizes the importance of creating a relaxed atmosphere. "Try to view the photo session as an enjoyable experience, not something to be stressed about," she advises.

Building a friendly rapport with the photographer or crew helps to ease tension and make the environment more comfortable.

A positive mindset is crucial. Nada suggests focusing on your purpose rather than your anxiety. "Why are you in front of the camera? Remember your goal, whether it's to share a story or promote a product. Keeping that in mind can help drown out negative thoughts," she emphasized.

Body language plays a significant role in how comfortable you appear on camera. Stand tall, relax your shoulders, and maintain good posture to project confidence.

"Keep your movements deliberate and avoid fidgeting. Subtle shifts in posture or expression can make a big difference in how natural you look," she advises. Practicing in front of a camera can help you identify habits that might distract from your overall presence.

Finally, take advantage of the tools and resources available to enhance your on-camera experience. Nada recommends experimenting with lighting and angles that flatter your features.

"Good lighting can do wonders for your confidence. It’s amazing how a well-lit space can make you feel more photogenic," she ended. Taking control of your environment allows you to feel more empowered and at ease.

With these tips, you can slowly overcome nervousness and become more confident in front of the camera, whether it’s for a professional shoot or a personal video. Just remember: practice, patience, and a positive mindset will make you more photogenic and, most importantly, more at ease with yourself.
