TIMES SINGAPORE, JAKARTARengginang is typical Indonesian crackers made of sticky rice. It has a crispy texture and addictive taste which will make you want for some more. This crispy crackers will suit any occasion you have in your house, whether becoming some snack while you were  work from home, a companion during your movie time and more.

Little did you know, this tasty and savory crackers has become one festive food for the local community. Although some of them will serve this crackers daily for their favorite snack, some home will served it on certain occasion like Eid Al Fitr or Christmas.

As one of festive food?  Does it look to simple to serve during such occasion? It does. But surprisingly, this crackers has always become a favorite thing to pick instead of those festive cookies. Almost every house in Indonesia will served this crackers on their table during Eid Al-Fitr.

Rengginang is made of sticky rice with some additional ingredients to add the flavor. You could find those original taste with only plain and savory from salt and garlic, or those nice one with shrimp paste, or those added with razor clamp, or the sweet one with its colorful taste of commonly pink or green.

The history of Rengginang begins when the local community of West Java trying to make a fermented tape made of sticky rice but they run out of yeast. At the end, they took an option to just dry it under the sun in such small portion and decided to fry it.

Some local houses will produce it themselves to suit their taste. It's because the process to make Rengginang was so simple and could be done by yourself at home. Some people will tend to just bough it from market and fried it themselves, or they just bought those ready to serve one at the local groceries store.(*)
