JAKARTAThe Indonesian Hajj Organizing Committee (PPIH) in Saudi Arabia has intensified its efforts to ensure food quality and nutritional standards for Indonesian pilgrims during Hajj 2026, implementing routine inspections on all meals served.

As part of its commitment, PPIH conducts daily food testing to guarantee that meals meet proper hygiene, taste, and nutritional requirements before being distributed to pilgrims.

Head of Consumption Services for PPIH Saudi Arabia, Indri Hapsari, emphasized that inspections are carried out consistently throughout the day.

“Meal tests are conducted three times a day—for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. This ensures that the food served to pilgrims is appropriate and meets the established standards,” she said in Madinah.

Nutritional Improvements for Hajj 2026

During Hajj 2026, PPIH has increased the nutritional value of meals to support pilgrims’ stamina amid physically demanding rituals and extreme weather conditions in Saudi Arabia.

Each meal now includes a balanced portion of carbohydrates, protein, vegetables, fruit, and mineral water. The standard serving consists of approximately 170 grams of rice, 80 grams of protein, along with side dishes and 600 ml of water.

This enhancement reflects a strategic move to improve the overall health and endurance of Indonesian pilgrims throughout the pilgrimage.

Special Services for Elderly Pilgrims

In addition, PPIH provides tailored meal options for elderly pilgrims participating in Hajj 2026. Softer food textures and customized menus are prepared based on specific needs reported by group leaders.

This initiative ensures that elderly pilgrims can consume their meals comfortably and safely, minimizing potential health risks.

Timely Meal Consumption is Essential

PPIH also urges pilgrims to consume meals on time, as food safety is a major concern under Saudi Arabia’s high temperatures during Hajj 2026.

Pilgrims are advised to consume their meals on time to maintain food safety during Hajj 2026, especially under extreme temperatures in Saudi Arabia. Breakfast should be eaten before 9:00 AM, lunch before 3:00 PM, and dinner before 9:00 PM local time.

Officials stress that delayed consumption may lead to food spoilage and health issues, encouraging pilgrims to always check expiration labels on meal packages.

Through strict supervision and improved meal standards, PPIH aims to ensure that Indonesian pilgrims remain healthy and well-nourished throughout Hajj 2026. These measures highlight Indonesia’s ongoing commitment to delivering high-quality services and safeguarding the well-being of its pilgrims during one of the most important religious journeys. (*)
