TIMES SINGAPORE, PANGANDARANCurug Goong or Goong Waterfall of Pangandaran offers a stunning beauty off small flow Waterfall with beautiful local scenery. Little did you know, the waterfall has its own story to tell.

Located at Blok Paliken, Pasirgeulis, Padaherang, Pangandaran, West Java, this place has been well known to have some mystical story behind. The story relates to Dewi Samboja and her traditional instruments.

Legend has it that Dewi Samboja, a popular ronggeng dancer back then kept her instruments on this waterfall after she performed. She lived at Blok Paliken, that's why may be she thought this was the safest and nearest place to keep her instruments.

Hear said that the instruments will vanished into the stone behind the waterfall when it's being kept. And it's need certain ritual to call them. Unfortunately, only Dewi Samboja and her troops who could call it out.

Dewi Samboja was just staying for a while at the area while heading to Galuh Pagauban Kingdom where her father in law settled. She was waiting for some troops to pick her up after some villain killed her husband.

During her stay she was using her dancing to to decoy the killer of her husband which owns the area where she stays. She hid her true identity and lived like the other peasants. 

"Yet, Dewi Samboja prefer to stay and think of some strategy to get her husband killer with some revenge instead of going forward to her father in law's kingdom," Erik Krisna Yudha, the Chief of Cultural Bearer of Pangandaran said on Saturday (29/5/2021).

Back to the ronggeng dance and it's instruments, Dewi Samboja keep doing her job as a performer. But little did you know, the instruments must be kept on the waterfall before the sun rises.

One day, they were late to sent back the instruments to the waterfall. And the next day the instruments vanished and couldn't be found till now.

The story that wrap Goong Waterfall or Curug Goong of Pangandaran has sugar coated the beauty of the waterfall itself.  Lots of people coming to this place not only for its beauty but also the story. (*)
