TIMES SINGAPORE, MAJALENGKA – To commemorate the 535th anniversary of Majalengka Regency, PT Gistex Garmen Indonesia reaffirmed its commitment to social responsibility by providing free cataract surgeries for local residents in need.
This social initiative, now in its second year, offered medical assistance to 135 cataract patients across Majalengka, significantly expanding its reach compared to last year’s program.
Majalengka Regent H. Eman Suherman expressed deep appreciation for the humanitarian efforts led by PT Gistex Garmen Indonesia. Reflecting on his first encounter with the company back in 2012, he praised the company’s impressive growth and continued dedication to the local community.
“In 2012, I had the opportunity to meet representatives from PT Gistex Garmen Indonesia. Since then, the company has grown tremendously. This initiative is truly commendable. I sincerely thank PT Gistex for their consistent contributions and success,” said the Regent.
He also emphasized the urgent need for better eye care in the region, noting that out of an estimated 1,857 cataract sufferers in Majalengka, only around 300 have received medical treatment so far.
“The eyes are the windows to the world. When vision is impaired, quality of life declines, and it can create additional burdens within families. Unfortunately, many still overlook the importance of eye health. We hope this program enables more people to see the beauty of the world once again,” he added.
Regent Eman stressed that the initiative is not merely part of the anniversary celebrations, but also a testament to the successful collaboration between local government, private companies, and healthcare professionals.
He extended his gratitude to all partners involved, including the Majalengka Health Department, the Indonesian Ophthalmologists Association (Perdami), Bandung Eye Center, and other supporting organizations.
Johnny Schepper, President Director of PT Gistex Garmen Indonesia, through HR & GA Manager Owijaya Wiyana, explained that the program reflects the ongoing commitment of the company’s founders, Henry Wargana and Hie Min Tjhin, to making a positive impact on the community.
“This is the second year we’ve organized this free cataract surgery program. Last year, on June 27, 2024, we held it at Ligung Health Center with around 60 participants. This year, we’ve increased the number to 135 patients,” he shared.
He affirmed that this initiative is a clear demonstration of PT Gistex Garmen Indonesia’s long-standing dedication to public welfare since establishing its presence in Majalengka in 2012.
“Through this program, we hope to help more cataract sufferers regain their vision and improve their quality of life. It’s our way of giving back to the community and showing how much we care for the people of Majalengka,” HR & GA Manager of PT Gistex Garmen concluded. (*)
