TIMES SINGAPORE, JAKARTA – The Palestinian has dealth with war for a year. Following Hamas' attack on October 7, 2023, which was claimed to be a response to Israel's brutality toward Palestinians over the past years.

According to Al Jazeera, at least 21 million people, or approximately 92% of Gaza's population, are facing a food crisis. One in five Palestinians, or about 495,000 civilians, suffer from hunger.

Over 10,000 civilians are reported missing or unaccounted for in what is being described as genocide. Around 97,166 Palestinians have been injured in the past 365 days, and 41,870 civilians have been killed, with one in every 55 Gazans losing their lives.

Among the dead, 16,756 were children, and 11,346 were women. At least 10,000 Palestinians are imprisoned in Israel under horrific conditions, and 75% of Gaza's population has been infected with contagious diseases.

Major Israeli Attacks

On October 6, 2024, the Israeli military continued its ground operation in Jabalia, northern Gaza, claiming it aimed to prevent Hamas from regrouping.

The Al-Mawasi Khan Younis Massacre on September 10, 2024, killed 40 people and injured 60 others. This massacre occurred in an area designated as a "safe zone" by Israel, urging civilians to evacuate there.

Ismail al-Thawabta, director of the Gaza Government Media Office, stated that dozens of civilians were buried under rubble. The attack left a deep crater, with refugees describing it as a graveyard where victims remained buried.

The Al-Tabaeen School Massacre on August 10, 2024, occurred when fighter jets bombed a prayer area within Al-Tabaeen School in Gaza City during dawn prayers, killing over 100 Palestinians, including women and children.

On July 13, 2024, Israeli fighter jets attacked a refugee camp in al-Mawasi near Khan Younis, an area declared "safe" by Israel. The attack killed 90 Palestinians, most of whom were women and children, and injured 300 others.

Israeli media claimed the operation aimed to assassinate Mohammed Deif, the military leader of Hamas' Izz al-Din al-Qassam Brigades. Hamas denied the claim, stating no leaders were targeted, and condemned Israel for using false justifications for the massacre.

The Refugee Camp Massacre

The Nuseirat Refugee Camp Massacre on June 8, 2024, involved Israeli airstrikes and artillery targeting the Nuseirat refugee camp, killing 274 Palestinians, including 64 children and 57 women. The military claimed the operation was to rescue four Israeli hostages held by Hamas. Hamas later announced that three of the hostages were killed during the attack.

On May 26, 2024, a refugee camp in al-Mawasi, Rafah, was bombed, killing 45 Palestinians, including 23 women and elderly people, and injuring 249 others. Dubbed the "Tent Massacre," the attack drew condemnation from the Palestinian Ministry of Health.

The military denied responsibility, with spokesman Daniel Hagari stating, "Contrary to reports, no strikes were conducted in the al-Mawasi humanitarian zone." Hamas accused Israel of deliberately targeting civilians seeking refuge.

The Al-Shifa Hospital Massacre occurred between March 18 and April 1, 2024, when Israeli forces besieged the Al-Shifa Medical Complex in Gaza City for two weeks, killing 400 Palestinians. After Israel withdrew, three mass graves were discovered inside the hospital complex. The military claimed to have killed 200 "militants" and captured 500 members of Hamas and Islamic Jihad. Hamas accused Israel of using the siege to cover up its military failures.

The Gaza

On February 29, 2024, Israeli forces fired on hundreds of Palestinians gathered at the Nabulsi Roundabout to receive aid in southwestern Gaza City, killing 118 and injuring 760 others. This massacre became known as the "Flour Massacre."

The Al-Fakhura School Massacre on November 18, 2023, involved airstrikes hitting a UN-run school in northern Gaza, where thousands of displaced Palestinians had sought shelter, killing and injuring over 200 people.

The Jabalia Refugee Camp Massacre on October 31, 2023, saw Israeli airstrikes targeting densely populated areas in the Jabalia refugee camp, killing and injuring 1,000 Palestinians, mostly women and children.

On October 20, 2023, Israeli forces bombed the Orthodox Church of St. Porphyrius in Gaza, killing 20 victims, including 18 Christians who were taking shelter inside.

The Arab Al-Ahli Hospital Massacre on October 17, 2023, occurred when Israeli airstrikes hit the courtyard of the Arab Al-Ahli Hospital in Gaza City, killing over 500 Palestinians, mostly women and children.

The ongoing Israel-Palestine conflict, marked by cycles of violence, deeply rooted historical grievances, and territorial disputes, remains one of the world's most intractable struggles. The path forward requires both sides, along with the international community, to prioritize diplomacy, human rights, and mutual recognition to break the cycle of violence and build a foundation for coexistence.
