TIMES SINGAPORE, JAKARTA – As temperatures in Makkah climb during the Hajj 2025 season, Ali Machzumi, a key official overseeing Indonesian pilgrims in Saudi Arabiashares valuable tips to help ensure a safe and healthy pilgrimage.
As Head of the Makkah Working Area for Indonesia’s Hajj Organizing Committee (PPIH), Ali is responsible for guiding and protecting the wellbeing of thousands of pilgrims.
Here are his top tips for staying healthy in Makkah’s extreme heat:
1. Pray at the Hotel During Midday
Ali advises pilgrims not to push themselves to perform Dhuhr and Asr prayers at Masjid al-Haram under the scorching sun. Comfortable prayer rooms (musalas) are available in hotels, and the reward remains, insha’Allah, the same. Maghrib, Isha, and Fajr prayers are better done at the mosque when it’s cooler.
2. Conserve Energy for Armuzna
With the peak Hajj ritual of Armuzna scheduled for June 5, 2025, conserving energy is crucial—especially for elderly pilgrims. Ali urges everyone to avoid overexertion in the days leading up to this physically demanding phase.
3. Time Umrah Wisely
Upon arriving in Makkah—especially for those coming from Madinah—Ali recommends resting first before starting the obligatory umrah. For those flying in from Indonesia to Jeddah, performing umrah at night is advised to avoid daytime heat. Pilgrims should also be in ihram from the embarkation point, ready for miqat.
4. Stay Hydrated
To prevent dehydration, pilgrims should drink at least two liters of water daily. The dry desert climate accelerates fluid loss, making regular hydration essential. Carrying a personal water bottle at all times is highly recommended.
5. Shield Yourself from the Sun
Using umbrellas, hats, or scarves to block direct sunlight can prevent heatstroke and sunburn. Ali stresses the importance of staying shaded when outdoors.
6. Use Vitamins and Sunglasses
To stay fit and protect your body, take daily vitamins and wear sunglasses when out in the sun. This helps maintain stamina and eye health during the long pilgrimage.
Ali’s guidance comes from years of experience in the field. By following these simple but essential tips, pilgrims can focus more on their worship and less on the challenges of the desert climate.
“Take care of your body so your spirit can soar in worship. May your Hajj 2025 be safe, accepted, and full of blessings," the guy ended. (*)
