TIMES SINGAPORE, MAKKAH – The Haramain High Speed Railway (HHSR) is revolutionizing transportation for Hajj 2024 pilgrims, offering a rapid and efficient travel option across key cities in Saudi Arabia. As one of the top ten fastest trains in the world, the HHSR speeds across the desert at up to 300 kilometers per hour, ensuring timely and comfortable travel.

Key Routes and Connectivity

The HHSR connects the holy cities of Makkah and Madinah with Jeddah and King Abdullah Economic City (KAEC), facilitating seamless movement for pilgrims. The railway operates around 50 trips daily, significantly easing the congestion typically associated with Hajj.

Prospective passengers can purchase tickets through the HHR Train app, available in both English and Arabic on the App Store and Play Store. Ticket prices are reasonable, with economy tickets from Jeddah Al-Suleimanyah to KAEC priced at approximately 57.50 Saudi Riyals (around 248,000 Indonesian Rupiah), and business class tickets at 97.75 Saudi Riyals (about 424,000 Indonesian Rupiah). The app also allows for easy seat selection, enhancing passenger convenience and comfort.

Enhanced Services for Hajj Pilgrims

To accommodate the increased number of pilgrims during the Hajj season, additional train services are provided. This ensures that all pilgrims can enjoy a smooth and hassle-free journey. The railway network is well-integrated with road and rail connections, supplemented by shuttle bus services that enhance mobility around various Hajj sites.

A significant milestone was achieved in January 2023 when female drivers began operating the HHSR, marking a substantial step forward in gender inclusivity within Saudi Arabia. This progressive move aligns with broader societal changes and advancements in the kingdom.

Future Expansion Plans

Looking ahead, the Saudi government has ambitious plans to expand the high-speed rail network by an additional 8,000 kilometers. This expansion aims to further improve accessibility and transportation efficiency across the nation, supporting both economic growth and the convenience of future Hajj and Umrah pilgrims.

In summary, the Haramain High Speed Railway is not just a mode of transportation but a transformative force in the Hajj 2024 experience, combining speed, comfort, and inclusivity to meet the needs of millions of pilgrims in 2024 and beyond. (*)
